    Western Butterflies

I just finished this little miniature of some western butterflies as a commission for a collector, and am delighted that they love it! I think my favorite part of this piece was all the beautiful vibrant golds I was able to use for it as well as so much delicate texture in their wings.

These two pieces will be showing in the Prelude to Spring Exhibition in Salem, Oregon at Elsinore Gallery coming in the month of March. I’m looking forward to when we burst into bloom again here in Minnesota.

  • Snow Leopard in Progress

    Snow Leopard in Progress

Working on an 8″x10″ snow leopard cub painting. Putting in the fur is very relaxing and I’m loving how it’s turning out. The limited palette is complimenting the cat so well.

  • Black Wolf in Autumn Leaves

    Black Wolf in Autumn Leaves

I hope everyone’s New Year has started off well! Minnesota has dropped into the deep freeze for the time being, so I am doing more painting than wildlife watching until it warms up to above zero at least. The deer and winter birds have been visiting regularly, though. I am busy finishing off a stack…

A new small miniature painting of a black wolf on the edge of a pond that should end up being 6.5″ x 4.5″. Just a few more adjustments before it’s finished. Opaque & transparent watercolor on board.

    Small Bird Paintings

Fresh out of the studio, these two little bird paintings recently arrived at Lovetts Gallery in Tulsa. If you’re nearby I hope you can stop by and see them. I’ve loved watching all of the autumn birds flocking to scavenge for seeds and visiting the feeders lately. Hopefully as winter progresses I will be gathering…

  • Grizzly Cub

    Grizzly Cub

A small painting of a grizzly bear.. This is one of the little bears up at the Duluth Zoo, back before the public could view them. Many thanks to the zoo’s photographer for allowing me to paint from their references. The little bears looked so happy and playful taking their baths.

  • Turquoise Tanager

    Turquoise Tanager

The leaves have mostly fallen and we have a light coating of snow to dress everything up here in Minnesota. The beautiful colors of Autumn are fading into mature greys and earth tones of winter. So I decided I needed a little colorful contrast. This cheery little bird is anything but gray, and perfect for…

  • Black Wolf at Water’s Edge

    Black Wolf at Water’s Edge

In painting this piece, I focused on the calmness of the water and blending of the color scheme with a soft background to give a feel of mist or haze so the wolf stands out. I loved the rich tones of the black fur that glowed in warm brown tones as the sunlight touched the…
