Several new large paintings (30in x 40in) are on my drafting table this week in sepia watercolor stage. This is a striking Saker-Gyr that I was able to see while up in Ontario earlier this year visiting Falconers and Raptor Sanctuaries in the Toronto area. Thank you to Falconer Steven for giving me the opportunity to spend some time observing.
The patterning of plumage on this bird was stunning – I hope to capture all of it in all its complexity in the final painting. It is definitely a challenge putting all of the markings in, especially at this scale. I can already feel the impact from the size and angles. Hopefully I will be able to achieve the look and presence I am after in these paintings.
This is the beginning of a new collection I am putting together for an upcoming exhibition in Asia with Mandala Fine Art.
