This seemed like a unique setting for a painting with the two little ones in the nest. This of course is the underpainting with color being added next. The painting should finish as an 8″ x 10″.
The robins in this part of Minnesota this year seem to be more active and extra territorial, but they’re such a delight to watch.

I just watched your video on utube of you painting an owl head. Could you tell me how you get such clear white lines. I use titanium white gouache and after I apply it, it appears to just soak into the paper and hardly shows. I appreciate your time. Thanks for posting demos. It is so helpful. Thank you, Susan. I would suggest using a little heavier consistency, it shouldn’t be soaking in as you’re describing. Just be careful not to build up very thick layers.
