My Donation for the International Wolf Center
In the stillness of my studio, where the whisper of winter winds carries echoes of the northern wild, my thoughts often turn to wolves—one of my favorite species, symbols of quiet strength and unbreakable family bonds. Their golden eyes, piercing yet soulful, have inspired countless hours at my easel, drawing me into a world of muted grace and timeless mystery. I’m thrilled to donate an original small wolf portrait to the International Wolf Center’s auction, with proceeds aiding the care of their beloved ambassador wolf pack.
This 8×10 watercolor is deliberately soft and intimate, featuring just the wolf’s head and shoulders with no background to distract from its essence. Muted grays and subtle earth tones recede gently, allowing those luminous golden eyes to glow like embers in twilight—each a window to the wild heart that captivates me. Though not a portrait of one of their wolves, this piece was born from admiration for the Center’s vital work in education, research, and wolf conservation along Ely, Minnesota’s forested edge. Their pack, those living ambassadors, embodies the behaviors and spirit I strive to capture, fueling my passion for rendering wildlife with such tender realism.
Supporting the Center feels like an extension of my own vow to the wild: ensuring these majestic creatures thrive through proper nutrition, enriched habitats, and public understanding. This donation is my way of giving back, inviting collectors to carry home not only art, but a piece of that profound legacy. If the wolf’s gaze moves you as it does me, please join the auction—together, we honor the pack that inspires us all.
With deep gratitude for nature’s gifts,
Rebecca Latham
