Wildlife in the Heart of the City

Silent Companions - Doves, Opaque & transparent watercolor on museum board, Rebecca Latham

Last Days to See “Silent Companions” at the Salmagundi Club, New York

As the City Spots exhibition at the Salmagundi Club draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on what an honor it is to have my painting, Silent Companions (13.5 x 13.5), included in this historic venue. There’s something truly special about sharing my work in a space that has celebrated artists and their visions for generations.

With Silent Companions, I set out to capture a quiet narrative that unfolds in the heart of the city—a moment where wildlife and urban life intersect, often unnoticed. Even in the busiest places, there are silent observers: the creatures that adapt, endure, and sometimes thrive alongside us. This painting is a tribute to those moments of stillness and connection that can be found if we pause and look a little closer. I hope it encourages viewers to recognize the subtle beauty and resilience of nature, even in the most unexpected places.

The Salmagundi Club, with its rich legacy and vibrant community, provides a fitting backdrop for this piece. If you find yourself in New York City before June 6th, I invite you to visit the Rockwell Gallery and experience Silent Companions in person. Thank you for joining me on this journey and for supporting the art and stories that connect us to the world around us.
