In this painting, I sought to capture the moment when a young raccoon reaches out to a butterfly, its delicate wings gathering sunshine as it warms itself on a fallen log. The painting is shown in its underpainting stage, with the texture and structure of the piece painted in with fine detail using sepia transparent watercolors. This technique allows me to create a sense of depth and dimension, as well as adding a subtle layer of warmth and richness to the piece.
One of the features of my watercolors is the delicate and precise brushwork used to capture the fur of the raccoon and the delicate wings of the butterfly. Every line and stroke is carefully considered, creating a sense of movement and life within the painting. The detail in the underpainting gives structure to the painting and texture to the next layers of color as they are painted in.
